Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, contained in 2 Corinthians, is to a church who have rejected him and, in doing so, also rejected God’s challenges to their own walk with the Lord and behaviour in the church. Unexpectedly, Paul does not proclaim all his deeds, intellect or authority. Instead he rejoices in following Jesus’ example – becoming weak, nothing, so that God would be all. The message is a huge challenge to us today, in a self-image worshipping world. And God’s call is to freedom – freedom from self so we can be given fully to God.
