‘The Faithful Witness (Revelation 1:5)

This is one of the titles of our adorable Saviour. His Father gave Him to be a witness, to testify unto us of His love, and His testimony is this: “God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life” [John 3:16].

To testify of His will in reference to sinners, this is His witness: “For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son [perceives His divinity, His authority, and His office] and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day” [John 6:40].

To testify of His delight in making His people happy, this is the record: “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the Kingdom” [Luke 12:32].

He witnessed to the fact that our God and Father will do for us, and give to us, all that our circumstances require; and we know that His witness is true. Therefore, let us believe it, simply on the ground of His divinity, knowledge, integrity, veracity, and the interest He takes in our happiness and the Father’s glory.

Jesus is the faithful Witness, and our glorious Friend.

Great Witness from above,
My tongue would bless Thy name:
By Thee the joyful news
Of my salvation came;
The joyful news of sin forgiven,
Of hell subdued, and peace with heaven.

‘The state of my health and other circumstances had led me early in the year to think of a removal, but at present, it must be left wholly with the Lord.’
