‘God has delivered us ! and He will continue to deliver us’ (2 Corinthians 1:10)

Think how many times our God already delivered us from many dangers; in how many ways; and He who has delivered us, does deliver, and in Him we trust that He will continue to deliver us.

He delivered us from spiritual death by the operations of His Holy Spirit; and from eternal death by the sacrifice of His Son. We were dead, but now we are alive to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. And He who delivered us from the greatest evil (spiritual death), will not refuse to deliver us from any lesser dangers.

So let’s trust in Him, rely on Him, and expect Him to deliver; it is written, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers from them all. He knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation.”

Let us triumph with Paul, “The Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion; and the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto His heavenly Kingdom; to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”

If He had not intended to carry on the work, He would not have started it; for He knew perfectly what opposition it would meet with; but He that has begun a good work, will complete it in the day of Jesus Christ [Philippians 1:6].

Yet I must fight, if I would reign;
Increase my courage, Lord!
I’ll bear the toil, endure the pain,
Supported by Thy word.

Journal Jottings

‘If I could but realize the presence of God, my union to Christ, and feel perfectly satisfied with the divine arrangements, I should rejoice. But it is not so with me. I am doing a little good for my fellow-man, both with the tongue and the pen. The Lord does condescend to use me, and I esteem it a great mercy that He does. I have lately been assaulted with powerful temptations even to gross sins. The Lord has in His great goodness preserved me !’
