New to Church
20 July 2006We understand it can be daunting if you’ve never been to a into a Baptist Church building before.
To make it easier, this page gives you some idea of what to expect and what a Church Service is really like.
First, you need to get to the Church. Here is the directions to cambray page.
When you come into the building, someone will greet you at the door and offer you a copy of the weekly notices and maybe a song book, although words for the songs are projected onto 2 screens at the front.
Most morning services last about an hour or so or a little longer if communion is involved. Evening services last about the same time, although it can vary! If you need to leave during a service, no-one will complain if you slip out.
Please sit where you like. There is seating in padded chairs downstairs
and on pews upstairs.
If you want to listen using the induction loop (fed from the PA system for those with hearing difficulties) you will find it works best if you sit towards the centre downstairs.
If you have children, they can either sit with you or join the other children, usually at the front. During most Sunday morning services the children aged 3-16 can leave for their own activities with Junior Church or Youth meetings part way through. If you would like them to join in, they are welcome. We also have a crèche for the under 3’s.
The service will normally consist of singing, Bible reading(s), some prayers and an easy to listen to sermon. There will be a offering or collection, but don’t feel embarrassed to pass the bags on without putting anything in it. Many Church members contribute directly through their bank accounts so you won’t be the only one passing it on.
Should you need the toilets can be found off to the right hand side as you enter the foyer. There are toilets through the doors to the left of the platform , turn left and 3metres down the corridor on the left and right.
After the morning service there is usually a chance for a cup of tea coffee or soft drink , served in the area to the right of the platform.
We hope this helps to explain what this Church is like. Please do come along, we’d love to see you! If you are still nervous after reading this, contact us and we will arrange for someone to meet you and show you around.
